Problemy
Action that is too high (strings far above the frets)
High action kills the motivation to learn and to play.
On electric guitars we deal with this by setting the action, the neck relief, the bridge radius and the action at the nut precisely and in relation to one another. Sometimes the neck angle to the body has to be reset with a shim. On acoustic and classical guitars the problem can be more complex: it may require lowering the bridge saddle, and sometimes correcting a lifting soundboard or lowering the bridge itself to increase the downward range of adjustment. Either way, we will find the reason and get the strings running just above the frets.
- Are the strings so high that you can slide a finger underneath?
- Is playing around the 10th to 12th fret close to a miracle?
- Is the top of your acoustic worryingly bellied?
